Sydney currently hosting the World Congress of Metropolis: Discussions to include Global Warming, but mother nature responds by giving Sydney one of the coldest days on record

By the blogowner, honestclimate, October 22, 2008

The ninth World Congress of Metropolis officially opens on Thursday and will continue until Saturday.

It will address issues facing cities around the world including climate change, financing public infrastructure, urban renewal, and social sustainability.

You’ve got to love mother nature’s sense of humour, Sydney has today experienced its coldest October day in at least 16 years.

Snow has been falling on the Blue Mountains this morning as a burst of cold, unstable southerly winds surge across the region.

There has been a mix of snow flakes, sleet, hail and thunder. The snow even became heavy for a time in the Katoomba area.

It is a rare event for the region. Snow in October has been reported about five times in the last 50 years.
