I agree that it would be a tragedy if funds for aid and development were re-channeled into more voter friendly aid for climate change.

However, since Africa is already facing drought because of climate change, helping African nations to adapt to it is a life saving measure.
Climate change adaptation includes new agricultural practices that will help poor farmers to irrigate crops in a drier climate. It includes better rainwater capture and storage, sustainable forestry projects that will halt desertification and erosion. Provided it is not transfered from existing aid budgets, I don’t see how money to help poor countries adapt to climate change is a bad thing.
