The Age detects doom-talk

From the Andrew Bolt Blog, December 1, 2008

The Age reports there’s too much talk of doom:

Australians are ‘world class whingers’, carry around a ‘prophets of doom’ attitude and have a tendency to sulk.

For proof of that doom-talk, look no further than …The Age itself:

Humans must change their ways if animal and plant species are to survive. Melissa Fyfe reports.

A quarter of all land animals and plants will not survive the onslaught of climate change, an international group of scientists has predicted. Their alarming findings…

And again it preaches doom:

The Great Barrier Reef will become “functionally extinct” within decades at the current rate of global warming, while wilder weather is set to affect property values and drive up insurance bills in many Australian coastal communities.

And again:

DROUGHTS will be longer, flooding rains will be rarer but heavier. Cyclones will hit harder. Violent storms and extreme heatwaves will strike more frequently. Evaporation will suck up scarce inland water. Sea levels will creep up half a metre. Oceans will be so acidic that in some places shells and reefs will dissolve.

And humanity, not nature, will be to blame.

And again:

Carbon dioxide is accumulating in the atmosphere much faster than scientists expected, raising fears that humankind may have less time to tackle climate change than previously thought.

And again:

UN predictions of a rise in global temperatures would be a disaster for all life on earth, resulting in widespread extinction of many species, Australian of the Year Tim Flannery says. The respected scientist said the UN’s prediction of a three degree Celsius temperature rise was conservative …

And again:

If ever a problem called for a holistic response involving every effective measure and every person on this planet, it is climate change.
