SHUNNED: Naturalist David Bellamy

From Daily Express, November 5, 2008

FOR YEARS David Bellamy was one of the best known faces on TV.

A respected botanist and the author of 35 books, he had presented around 400 programmes over the years and was appreciated by audiences for his boundless enthusiasm.

Yet for more than 10 years he has been out of the limelight, shunned by bosses at the BBC where he made his name, as well as fellow scientists and environmentalists.

His crime? Bellamy says he doesn’t believe in man-made global warming.

Here he reveals why – and the price he has paid for not toeing the orthodox line on climate change.

CLANGER: Bellamy says Al Gore has ‘no proof’ that millions will die due to global warming

“When I first stuck my head above the parapet to say I didn’t believe what we were being told about global warming I had no idea what the consequences would be.

I am a scientist and I have to follow the directions of science but when I see that the truth is being covered up I have to voice my opinions.

According to official data, in every year since 1998 world temperatures have been getting colder, and in 2002 Arctic ice actually increased. Why, then, do we not hear about that?

The sad fact is that since I said I didn’t believe human beings caused global warming I’ve not been allowed to make a TV programme.

My absence has been noticed, because wherever I go I meet people who say: “I grew up with you on the television, where are you now?”

It was in 1996 that I criticised wind farms while appearing on Blue Peter and I also had an article published in which I described global warming as poppycock.

Dear Editor

David Bellemy is in good company in being shunned by the BBC for his views on man made global warming.

The findings of 31,000 scientists – 9,000 of whom are PhDs – became available at the end of May rejecting man made global warming theory.

However, the UK news media, almost exclusively, chose to ignore them.

Sponsored by climate scientists of the International Coalition on Climate Change (ICCC), it stated: “There is no convincing evidence that CO2 emissions from modern industrial activity have in the past, are now, or will in the future cause catastrophic climate change.” The Declaration calls for governments and others to “reject the views expressed by the UN IPCC, as well as popular but misguided works such as Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”.

The Chairman of the ICCC, Professor Tim Patterson said, “Instead of wasting billions restricting emissions of CO2, a vitally important gas on which all life depends, governments must concentrate on solving known environmental problems over which we have influence.”

Whatever we may personally believe about global warming, serious science-based pressure is building on the UN IPCC to admit its objectives are political not scientific. Sir John Houghton, first co-chair of the IPCC, acknowledged as much when he stated: “Unless we announce disasters, no one will listen.”

He was a great man to listen to and imitate. Now no one under about 15 understands when talk about “gween and bwown plants”.

“Environmental” vested interest groups are using the exact same tactics as the anti tobacco vested interest groups. “The evidence is overwhelming.” They just can’t show you any that adds up.

It surely is good news to read what those who really know about our weather and how it does or doesn’t affect our environment. I have been wanting to write an editorial in our local news paper about the global warming farce, now I have the right stuff backed by someone who is more than qualified to report the facts.

BBC run by the clowns(british government)
fooling the herd…monkey’s…sheep with misinformation…
what a man he is David Bellamy!!!!!

5. Larry Lee - November 8, 2008

A “must view” WAG TV channel four documentary available on DVD –“The Great Global Warming Swindle” documentary by Martin Durkin. Fantastic display of scientific information well organized and presented in a logical coherent fashion showing that global warming is not man made.

6. JFreedomseed - November 10, 2008

Global warming has nothing to do with science. This is all about collectivist government.

Governments have an agenda, and the best way for them to achieve their goals (short of the use of bullets and other forms of force) is to keep the citizens perpetually frightened of something. Whether it’s global warming, bird flu, economy, SARS, terrorists, etc, the goal is to keep you afraid so that government can come riding to the rescue with new programs and bigger government. Problem is, bigger government always means smaller freedom and less liberty – not to mention less income.

Visit the Freedom Force International website to learn more about how our collectivist governments operate, how they started, and where we’re heading. There you will also find a plan for making it stop.

7. Kibitzer - November 11, 2008

Agreed. This isn’t about truth; it’s about power. And come January 21st or close thereto, we’ll start getting the implementation of a new international monetary order, set up by the financial crisis, which was set up for that very purpose. As ‘global warming’ serves the very same purpose, and agenda.

The truth is, the only thing that matters to these people is control.

I certainly hope they don’t win the day. But it depends on how many people can see the man behind the curtain. Or even be persuaded to take a look.

8. Jonathan - November 25, 2008

Hang on a moment – David Bellamy says that he doesn’t “believe” that climate change is caused by human beings, and that his “opinions” aren’t being listened to.
Exactly why are the opinions of a botanist relevant to the public debate on climate change? It is not that he has scientific evidence against anthropogenic climate change, but that he “believes” that the theory is flawed. As soon as a climate scientists publishes peer-reviewed research that casts climate change into doubt, the political debate will change – because then we will also have a scientific debate. At present, there is no debate in the scientific literature about whether climate change is anthropogenic (the debate is mainly in the media, the blogosphere and Youtube, as well as in parliaments).
Some people wonder why there is such an insistence on scientific rigour when discussing climate change. The answer is clear – because the Arctic ice cap is projected to melt within coming decades, which will flip us into a dangerous climate zone. Whether or not criticism of the science is supported by evidence is of critical importance. The reality is that the criticism is NOT supported by evidence.
I wish David Bellamy every success in his career as a botanist, but he should stay out of the climate debate.

9. John - April 2, 2009

Jonathan above may be right that a botanist should keep out of the climate debate, but what about James Hansen, one of the world’s leading proponents of man-made climate change? He’s an astronomer, yet he was Al Gore’s advisor. His views of global warming are accepted even though his expertise lies in the stars.

I can see no reason why James Hansen should be listened to, just because he happens to agree with the IPCC findings, and David Bellamy should not be listened to, just because he happens to disagree with the IPCC findings.

Who has the most expertise in being right, a botanist or an astronomer when it comes to climate change? If David Bellamy should stay out of the climate debate, then James Hansen should definitely shut up too!

Let’s face it, if David Bellamy had blamed man for every climate catastrophe in the world, he would be classified as a fully qualified climate scientist 😉
