MIDLAND cows may soon be fed coconuts to help stop them BURPING – because they are slowly helping destroy the planet.
The grass-munching moochers hit the ‘moos’ headlines recently when boffins discovered a herd of cattle produces more methane in just one year than a family car emits carbon dioxide over a whole decade.
Now nutrition advisers for the National Farmers Union, based in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, are developing new dinners for cows which cut down on fibre and are easier to digest – reducing emissions of greenhouse gas.
